AT THE SAME TIME A GOOD USED VENTILATED RIB BARREL ALONE WILL OFTEN COMMAND $300+/- OR MORE. I'VE SEEN A LOT OF GUNS SIMILAR TO THIS OFFERED IN THE $200-250 RANGE (WITH ONE BARREL). SO FAR AS VALUE, LIKE MANY THINGS OLD, CONDITION AND ORIGINALITY ARE THE PRIMARY DETERMING FACTORS. WITH SOARING LABOR COSTS AFTER WWII, THE M 11 WAS REPLACED BY REMINGTON'S 11-48 AND 48 SPORTSMAN WHICH USED STAMPED PARTS AND ALUMINUM CASTINGS TO REPLACE MANY OF THE MODLE 11'S MACHINED COMPONENTS. LIKE ITS BROWNING COUNTERPART, THE A-5, THE MODEL 11 WAS MADE FROM MACHINED PARTS, MANY OF WHICH WERE HAND FITTED. A THREE SHOT VERSION CALLED "THE SPORTSMAN" WAS ALSO INTRODUCED ABOUT THAT TIME. PERHAPS ONE DAY EXACTLY WHICH SEQUENCE WILL BE CONFIRMED WITH CERTAINTY.įROM 1905 THRU 1930 THE GUN WAS MADE ONLY IN 12 GA WITH 20 GA AND 16 GA FOLLOWING IN 19. FROM THIS I HAVE CONCLUDED THAT THE SERIAL NUMBERS PROBABLY STARTED AT 001 OR 101. I OWN GUN # 2980, AND HAVE SEEN GOOD CLEAR PHOTOS OF GUN #164. OVER THE COURSE OF PRODUCTION WHICH ENDED IN 1950, REMINGTON MADE APROXIMATELY 850,000 OF THESE GUNS.ĪLTHOUGH SOME REMINGTON HISTORICAL INFORMATION STATES THAT THE SERIAL NUMBERING STARTED AT 10,000, THERE IS AMPLE EVIDENCE TO SHOW THAT IS NOT CORRECT. BY COMPARISON, THE HIGHLY EMBELLISHED GRADE 6 SOLD FOR $150. YOUR GUN APPEARS TO BE A GRADE 1, THE LOWEST OF THE LINEUP, WHICH SOLD FOR $40 IN 1905. REMINGTON RENAMED THIS GUN THE MODEL 11 IN 1911. YOU DO INDEED HAVE A FIRST YEAR REMINGTON AUTOLOADING SHOTGUN. Matching serial # on front of trigger plate assembly. On the left side of the receiver appears the following writing: "REMINGTON ARMS CO. It looks like a Model 11, but there's no model identification on the gun, and I didn't get any paperwork with it.
